Welcome to the 90's Dance page
I wanted to deadicate a page on our website that covered the great dance music of the 90's. I felt that the core music that we focus on and play should be recognized on the website. Since there are pages dedicated to Disco, new wave, Old School and Freestyle. Why not have one that talks about the incredible 90's Dance songs.
The 90's dance songs listed here are not in order in the sense that Set U Free is our number # 1 dance song. They are all great songs and I have no desire to be like Casey Casem. Nothing against Casey but it is so easy to go down the path of jumping on the podium and declaring this is number #1. They are all great songs and anyone who has a clue about the 90's heard these great songs. For myself, I personally remember spinning these jams at City Nites in CT during the 90's in front of a crowd of over 2,000 every Friday and Saturday night.
Even today these incredible songs have amazing staying power. The list is a combination of some very popular tracks and many of the club gems that still work great today. Of course there is always someone who will ask me why am I playing new music as I am jamming Too Cool Chris version of the Roof is on Fire. Of course that dance floor jam came out in 96. There are many great dance songs that did not make the airwaves. I did not really include any Hip Hop on this list because I do not believe that the 2 really interconnect. 2 different styles and 2 different vibes. Hopefully the Top 100 list and some insight into these incredible artists might pass on some great music to a whole new audience.
Unfortunately Dance music in the last few years has not been the greatest. Dance music as a whole does not command the same presence as it once did in the 90’s and especially in the 80’s. Overall Dance Music as whole is ignored by mainstream radio and the likes of MTV. It seems today if it is not Hip Hop or what is a poor excuse for rock, does gain airplay. Only about 2% of dance songs actually make it on the air. When you look at the last 3 or 4 years what has become a hit on air is a weak excuse for music. To me Teardrops on my guitar and I Love song make me cringe and grit my teeth. Radio today plays the same crap day in day out and it is force feed to us all. It has become mass media, mass produced. Like fast food crammed down your throat. Fast food is not the best food for you and people eat because it is there. If radio actually played music that was the best music the landscape of both radio and MTV would be so very different. When you look at the Top 100 Dance songs that I have listed here, most never made ot on the mainstream air waves. How can a song like Set U Free-Planet Soul be so incredible but yet receive no mainstream radio support or even make it on the video music channels. If you can still call them that?
That is why the focus of our DJ service is to Retro Music because 90& of new music does not hold the same energy and power that great music from Disco, 80's, 90's and even Dance music up until 2005. I must say Hip Hop bore’s me tears. They have nothing new to say and it pale’s in comparison to old school hip hop. Today’s artist will not be remembered in 20 years. If you have not heard some of the great songs on this list. I would strongly encourage you to give them a spin. You will be amazed how surprisingly sounds so much better than what is being shoved down your top 40 radio throat. If there was enough room here I could list the Top 1000 list and anyone would be amazed to learn that most of those songs would be like hearning a new song for the first time.
